The Berlin Charter – join in the dialogue

Dear members, partners and friends of the Global Donor Platform,

The Federal German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) has invited an international group of high-level experts to elaborate a Charter Document on Rural Development, which shall be presented as an input to the BMZ International Conference on Rural Development titled: ONE WORLD – No Hunger, Future of the rural world. This conference will be held in Berlin on April 27 and 28, 2017.

The “Berlin Charter” shall highlight major global trends, challenges and in particular arising opportunities for rural areas. It is intended to portray a forward-looking, modern and innovation-driven development vision of the rural world, closing with a call for action to the international development. The Charter shall motivate decision-makers to step up and do their utmost to support rural development. In fact, the Charter is to serve as a roadmap and an inspiration. And as a reminder of how important rural development is for achieving sustainable global development.

On behalf of BMZ, the Platform Secretariat would like to inform you that the e-consultation on the Berlin Charter on Rural Development is now open. You can find the draft document and further information under the following link: www.bmz.de/Berlin-Charter. The e-consultation will close on 31st of March 2017.

You are kindly invited to comment on the Charter and to further distribute this message within your networks.

Thank you very much for your support.

With best regards,
The Platform Secretariat
