IFAD Partners with OLAM and Hilton

The IFAD-financed Value Chain Development Program (VCDP) and its partnership with Olam in Nigeria has been selected as one of five finalists for a global partnership award sponsored by Concordia, the U.S. Department of State, and the University of Virginia. 32,000 smallholder farmers have doubled their rice sales thanks to the VCDP partnership in Nigeria.

As part of their shared commitment to make a positive impact on rural communities and smallholders worldwide, Hilton Hotels and IFAD moved a step forward with the signing of a Letter of Intent to formalize the partnership and continue to connect smallholder farmers supported by IFAD investments with Hilton Hotels supply chains. The collaboration is already on-going in the Seychelles, and beginning to gain traction in Sri Lanka, Fiji and Argentina, with further exploration on-going elsewhere in East and West Africa. By working in collaboration with IFAD-supported projects in each country, Hilton is benefitting from organized farmer groups that have access to training, quality seeds and inputs, rural infrastructure and transport, and improved post-harvest handling, in addition to unique, indigenous crops and ingredients to integrate into Hotel menus to enhance the guest experience.
