Business and Industry Major Group Finds New Focal Points for HLPF
The Business and Industry Major Group (B&I) in New York has found two volunteers to take on the role of focal point: Norine Kennedy, Vice President, Strategic International Engagement, Environment and Energy Affairs, United States Council for international Business (USCIB); and Shea Gopaul, Special Representative to the UN for the International Organization of Employers (IOE).
They have been nominated as focal points subject to ratification on the next B&I group call proposed for July 17 or 18, at 8:00am Eastern time (TBC). The confirmed date and time will be announced by the middle of next week. Should you not be able to join the call and have alternate nominees for the focal point position, please let us know by Thursday June 13.
The Business and Industry (B&I) Major Group to the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) in New York helps to co-ordinate input into the High Level Political Forum. It prepares and coordinates business group involvement in meetings relating to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and its 17 SDGs. It assists UN DESA to liaise with business, identify appropriate business speakers and other resource persons to 2030 Agenda relevant meetings and to reach out to the full diversity of interested private sector groups and entities.
Please note that registration for the upcoming High Level Political Forum (HLPF) to be held from July 9th – 18th, 2019 on the theme “empowering people and ensuring inclusiveness and equality” is now open. 50 spots for business registration beyond those available to ECOSOC accredited groups have also been secured. If you have ECOSOC accreditation, please apply under that system. If you do not have ECOSOC status, please attempt to register as Major Group – Business and Industry. This system is just being established, so please bear with us if there are some challenges. Applications for these slots will be on a first come first served basis.
