Strengthening Collaboration on VGGT and RAI Implementation: Increasing Responsible Investments in Agriculture and Food Systems

A Technical Thematic Forum will take place October 5-6 at the FAO, in Rome, Italy during the 5th Anniversary of the VGGT. The Session “Increasing Responsible Investments in Agriculture and Food Systems” will further highlight how crucial it is to involve all key stakeholders -from small-scale producers, processors, transporters, wholesale traders, retailers – and how regulations and standards are applied for a responsible development of food systems. 

Steve Ngunyi, from Nairobi, Kenya, will be speaking on behalf of the Private Sector Mechanism regarding the special event on the Land Tenure (VGGT) and Responsible Agricultural Investment principles. This Session will discuss how responsible investment can contribute to food security as well as increase productivity and income of small-scale producers.

Steve Ngunyi is a social entrepreneur in Nairobi, Kenya and the Managing Partner at Icon Be One, a consulting firm for agricultural brands that help agricultural businesses manage their societal and production commitments, bridging the gaps between business, consumer, government, and non-governmental organizations.

As a Youth Social Entrepreneur, Steve Ngunyi has interest in various fields across the agri value chain, from a livestock feedlot farm that supports the pastoral farmer sell their livestock during drought seasons, a restaurant that promotes local organic farmers, to a renewable energy business through biomass briquetting.

Seeing a great opportunity for the urban youth to engage in various fields in agribusiness, he begun a program called Agri-e-couture which focuses on developing strategies for the white collar youth farmer, with an aim to focus their investments into agri related inventions or value chain processes. 

Steve formerly served as Account Manager for Ogilvy and Mather, one of the eight largest advertising networks in the world, based in New York City He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Tourism from the University of Nairobi.
