The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Throughout the Sustainable Development Goals process, the International Agri-Food Network has been engaged in the negotiations. As part of the Global Business Alliance, we have placed a priority on the 5 Ps: People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, and Partnership.
The SDGs place People-centred approaches at the core of the development aspirations of the UN. Agriculture programs are needed that are ‘farmer-centred and knowledge-based’ so that the full potential of farmers, both men and women can be harnessed. Farmers need access to land, water, knowledge, inputs, and credit to grow a crop and functioning markets to sell their products.
It starts with primary producers and touches every person on the planet.

SDG – Partnership Forum – Final Report
The role of the private sector and the role of partnerships have been gaining recognition in the context of development strategies and international policy-making. SDG Goal 2 “By 2030, end hunger and ensure access by all people, in particular the poor and people in vulnerable situations, including infants, to safe, nutritious and sufficient food all year round” and 17 “Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership of sustainable development”, as well as the report of the Third International Conference on Financing for Development, the FAO, IFAD and WFP strategies for partnership with the private sector provide a clear call to action for delivering global partnerships for sustainable development.

WBCSD SDG Sector Roadmaps
This framework leads companies through a process of establishing their sector’s current level of interaction with the SDGs throughout the value chain; identifying the sector’s most significant opportunities for impact; and establishing key action items and monitoring systems in order to chart a course towards the sector’s 2030 vision. The framework has been refined with experience gained through the piloting of these guidelines with a coalition of leading WBCSD member companies and industry associations from the chemical sector, who have been early pioneers of the methodology and will release their own roadmap later this year.

SDG WBCSD Guide to the Sustainable Development Goals
While ultimately it is governments who are being asked to deliver the SDGs, the simple fact is that this critical agenda cannot be realized without effective engagement by the private sector. Business has a critical role to play as: a source of finance; a driver of innovation and technology; an engine of economic growth and employment. Download the full report.

Business for 2030 / Partnerships for SDGs
The Agenda 2030 is an excellent opportunity for the private sector to demonstrate the central role it plays in the eradication of hunger. Given that Goal 2 will be one of the seven Goals to be reviewed during the 2017 HLPF, all PSM members are invited to submit case-studies of approximately 1-2 pages in length, that comply with the UN’s SMART criteria (specific, measurable, achievable, resource-based, with time-bound deliveries) and are related primarily to Goal 2 and its targets.
Members are invited to upload them to the Business for 2030 website here:

Agriculture and Food Day
Agriculture & Food Day took place in 2017 to raise awareness of the critical need for investment in Goal 2 and its interlinkages with the other goals under focus. The day included a thematically-focused plenary session, a series of roundtable discussions on interlinkages in SDGs, and a dynamic luncheon featuring youth in agriculture.
