Food Security at Ever Greater Risk

The UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres released the second report on the UN Global Crisis Response Group on Food, Energy and Finance. You can read the report here. During its release, the Secretary General said we must act now to save lives and livelihoods. The report outlines the risk that food prices are spiking and with fertilizer prices up and in short supply, the food shortage will spread from corn and wheat to all staple crops.

Rebecca Grynspan who chairs the group noted the severity of the situation that may lead to one of the most severe global cost crisis in a generation.

CFS, including the Private Sector Mechanism, will continue to provide information to the UN Global Crisis Response and agrees the situation is extremely grave. In this respect, it is extremely important to ensure farmers all over the world are able to produce their crops. For too long, the world has ignored the importance of investing in the agri-food sector.
